Adjectives Definition Page

What are adjectives? Adjectives are words that modify nouns and pronouns. So what is modifying? Modifying a word means to help make it clearer, or to define it better. If I were to say 'look at that car', you might not be able to tell which car I was talking about. But if I said 'look at that red car' then you would have a better understanding of which car... the 'red' one.

Nouns as adjectives: Nouns can be adjectives. Be careful when deciding which words are nouns and which are adjectives. Ask yourself this question, "does this word describe another noun in this sentence?" If you say yes, then it's an adjective. For example, the word 'truck' is a noun most of the time. However, if I said 'truck tire' then truck is telling me what kind of tire it is. Since that is the case, 'truck' becomes an adjective.
