When discussing Christianity, I must first explain the four people involved in this mystery of a religion. However, few things will make sense without the deeply held Christian belief that the Holy Bible is God's inspired word. We believe that all things in it are good for teaching and building up of Christians. Having said that, the four people are you (humans), and God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. All of Christianity can be explained in the details of description of each part of this equation. Let's deal with them in all in turn. First, I will describe God.
I would begin by describing God in the following ways. He is perfect. He is all knowing, all powerful and everywhere. He is decidedly unfair. Finally, and above all, He is Just. In God's all knowing and perfect wisdom, He created the next part of the equation: humans. Humans are decidedly imperfect. God created us perfect, with no faults. In the course of time, however, we choose to go our own way and then sinned against God's perfection, thereby separating us from Him. We were created with a physical body that constantly pulls us away from perfection and forces us to choose the wrong things. Every human that has ever lived or will ever live are plagued by the physical desires of our bodies, even Jesus.
Which brings us to the next person involved: Jesus. Jesus is the begotten son of God, who's task it was to save humans from their own imperfections. After we sinned, God looked at his creation and wept. He loved us and did not want to be separated from us. In His perfect wisdom, however, He knew that for us to love him back, we would have to be free to choose against him. So he let us sin, and fall away from His standard of perfection. He did not want us to die, though, so he let his son die for us, thereby making us perfect, at least in his eyes.
The final person in the works is the Holy Spirit. This workhorse of a being is the 'helper' Jesus told his followers they would receive after he left for the last time. He is the part of God that lives in us and helps us obtain a closer level or perfection than previously possible.
Having said all that, I'm sure many of you are wondering where my head has been the last few years. To a nonbeliever this probably makes no sense at all. To some believers, sadly to say, this may sound familiar, but confusing still. I admit, God did have a complex plan for us, with a simple message. Although the stuff above may seem confusing and stupid, the message God wants us to have is this: That He loves the world, and He wants to bring a fallen world back to Him. We have to trust and learn why He did it the way He did, but in the end, the real message is love.
Allow me to make this challenge now. If you are not a believer in Christ, and think that this is 'all fine for you'. Think again. My intention is not to simply allow you to say 'Christianity works just fine for those who believe in it'. I want to prove to you that it makes sense for the whole world, including your tolerant self.
