What is a noun? A noun is a word that represents a person, place, thing or idea. If it can be held, touched, visited, looked at, thought or felt, it's a noun.
Common and Proper nouns: Proper nouns are names of things. Any person's name, or the name of a place are all proper nouns. Common nouns are not names, they just represent a generic name for all of its kind. For example, 'Mt. Rushmore' is the name of a mountain so it's proper. But if I just said 'mountian', that's not the name of any specific mountian so it is common.
