Parts of Speech

Every word, when used in a sentence can be catagorized into one of eight Parts of Speech (abbreviated POSE on these pages). They are:
Noun
Pronoun
Verb
Adjective
Adverb
Preposition
Conjunction
Interjection

Every word in every sentence will be one of these POSE. However, a word is not a POSE until it is used in a sentence.

For example, if the word 'Card' were used in the sentence "I used my ID card." then 'Card' would be a noun. If, however, 'Card' were used in the sentence "I don't want to get carded" then it becomes a verb. If you ever want to know what POSE a word is, figure out what it does in the sentence. (see Parts of Sentence for more detail)
