Prepositions Definition Page

What are prepositions? Prepositions are words that show a relationship between a noun and other words in a sentence. This relationship can be physical or not. Words like, for, under, around, below, past, since are all prepositions.

What are prepositional phrases? Prepositional phrases consist of the preposition followed by a noun or pronoun connected by the preposition. For example, if I were to say "The girl slept under the bed." then 'under' is the preposition. The phrase would then be the preposition 'under' followed by the noun after it 'the bed'. So the prepositional phrase would be 'under the bed'.
